HF or Blowback Plasma cutter?

Home/Store/HF or Blowback Plasma cutter?

Why can I not use a HF start plasma cutting machine on my CNC table?

This is a question we are asked on a regular basis, we thought we would try to explain why!

High frequency (HF) Start

A high frequency pulse will be sent through the electrode and nozzle on your torch and then into the workpiece.

This helps to establish the pilot arc, which in turn will establish the full cutting arc through the workpiece.

Blowback (BL) start

Inside of the nozzle as well as the electrode, there is a spring, this spring completes the circuit to keep the loop closed.

When you apply air from the trigger, the spring blows back and opens up the circuit very slightly.

This causes a spark that then starts the arc for the pilot.

The pilot arc then makes contact with the workpiece, grounding it out and making the full cutting arc.

As both have pilot arc, you will not need to touch the nozzle to the workpiece to establish the arc.

We use a Blowback start machine with our CNC tables... Why?

From experience we know that the High frequency machines can cause lots of trouble with the PC Control system for the tables, causing the systems to develop faults or completely shut down.

HF Start in general causes interference with electrical equipment nearby, causing a lot of electromagnetic interference EMI.

HF Machines are manufactured at a much lower price, in our opinion this is often reflected in the quality of the machine.
